Should you buy a cheap laptop or a cheap desktop?
You may find yourself asking that question many times while shopping for a computer. This guide offers you the pros and cons of owning a laptop versus a desktop pc.
1. Processing speed
Comparing processing speeds, laptops usually lag behind their desktop counterparts. With the rapid advance in microchip technology, the gap between them will become smaller.
2. Wireless.
Most laptops especially those with Intel mobile chips come with wireless capability out of the box. This means you can get online from any location at home easily without ugly wires if you have a wireless network setup at home.
Desktop pcs do not typically provide this capability out of the box although that may change in the near future.
3. Memory.
Memory chip tends to be more expensive in Laptop than desktop pcs. If you buy a laptop with less than 512MB ram, be prepare to pay more for memory upgrades than you have to with a desktop pc.
4. Graphics Display
Because of the size of a laptop, most business or entry level laptop use integrated graphics with limited ram. This means most laptops even some expensive ones cannot run graphics intensive applications or 3d games as well as a desktop pc.
With a desktop pc, you can buy a dedicated graphics card just to serve a graphics intensive application.
5. Portability.
Portability is why everyone wants a laptop these days. Because of their size and weight, it is easier to carry a laptop around as opposed to a desktop pc.
6. Screen Display.
Everyone buy laptop for their portability so laptops usually do not come with screens as big as their desktop counterparts. The screen technology used is usually not as good as those used by desktop pc.
Furthermore with a desktop pc, you can always upgrade to a bigger and better screen whereas for laptop you are stuck with the same screen display for the whole lifespan of the laptop.
So whether you should buy a cheap laptop or a cheap desktop, ask yourself what are your needs? If you want to be able to use a computer wherever you go, then you are looking at a laptop to fulfill your needs.
However if you do not require the portability of a laptop, play a lot of 3D games, graphic intensive applications, if you care about upgradeability to prolong the lifespan of your investment, then desktop pc is a smarter choice for you.

Today, online pharmacies are fast becoming popular among consumers worldwide. These websites are now considered as alternative means to order and purchase prescription medications. Aside from popularity, online pharmacies also attract many people for their convenience. Since busy individuals as well as those who are living in rural places find it hard to find time and means to buy or get the medications they need, a legitimate online pharmacy is proven to be a handy alternative. With pharmacy websites, ordering and buying medications are just a few mouse clicks a away.
However, consumers should still be cautious when they are to buy cheap medicine online. Although online pharmacies’ convenient benefits may sound very appealing, people should know that there are some websites that are basically illegitimate or hoax. It is very important for people to follow purchasing guidelines when thinking of availing services of online pharmacies. Following these guides, consumers will definitely have a safer and more convenient experience on buying medications via the Internet.
Below are the things consumers need to remember when buying cheap medicine online:
1. Know if prospect online pharmacies require prescriptions from doctors and physicians in their selling procedures.
Remember that prescriptions are regarded to be as proof of doctor or physician consultation that includes physical assessment and recommendation for a specific medication as diagnosis. Consumers should avoid websites that only require consumers to fill up questionnaires in replacement for prescriptions as well as those that only ask for personal information such as the credit card number. Those websites are generally the ones that provide fake or hoax services and products.
2. Make sure that all prospect online pharmacies are licensed and acknowledged by their covering states.
Note that a legitimate online pharmacy should have the same quality of services and products as one can get from local drugstores. To ensure safety and privacy in ordering and purchasing cheap medications via the Internet, always make it a point to check if the operations of these websites are indeed legal or are approved by their covering states.
3. Beware of online pharmacies that do not have in-house registered pharmacists.
When prospect online pharmacies do not have in-house pharmacists to answer consumers’ questions regarding the medications or drugs they offer, better delete them from the list of target related websites. Websites without registered health practitioners are most likely hoax or fake online medicine stores.
4. Avoid websites that feature false promises such as cure-alls or quick cures.
Websites loudly blabbing unbelievable claims should definitely be avoided, for these are obviously fakes or hoax sites. Poser sites make use of exaggerating service benefits to lure consumers into their websites.
5. Consult a doctor or a physician before using any purchased drug or medication from any online pharmacy.
Even if the purchased medications or drugs are exactly the ones recommended in the prescription, it is still a must for consumers to consult their doctors and physicians prior to the first intake of the purchased drug. This is to make sure that the drugs or medications are in line with the prescription of the doctor.
Used Computers are by far the cheapest solution

Cheap computers are everywhere. Dell is offering some stupidly priced computer hardware at the moment, all with a view to beating the online shopping market. The point is, this isn’t really conducive with an ethical, environmentally friendly solution and is simply keeping Dell gainfully employed.
Low cost computers can also mean second hand and there’s a few good reasons to buying used.
1) The processing power of a used computer may not be much less than that currently on offer by the Manufacturer
2) You don’t need the latest and fastest computer to produce a spreadsheet, surf the web, write emails and write letters.
3) A used computer has been road-tested. It’s not going to fail on you any time soon.
There’s other reasons to get a used computer, but basically, that second hand unit you’ve been looking at will probably do most of the things you need your IT hardware to fulfill. Even the monitor doesn’t have to be new. You may think that a brand new flat screen TFT is best with lower energy consumption and a small footprint, leaving loads of desk space. A flast screen monitor may be a great solution for some, but a used CRT screen is better for gaming, graphic design and photography. They’re a proven and refined technology. They offer multisync solutions, allowing you to change resolutions and refresh rates on the fly, with every resolution being native (TFTs have one native refresh rate and the rest are emulated).
A CRT is pretty much as good as a TFT when it comes to energy efficiency. There’s only a few watts in it and as long as you turn everything off at the mains once done each day, you won’t see a marked increase in your electrical bill. A naturally flat CRT screen will give you the added benefit of super fast refresh rates and be able to keep up with the latest games on the market- all at a very low cost.
Cheap used laptops do however have some downsides. These include the battery life and general wear and tear of the unit from it’s previous owner. Saying all that, as long as it’s been relatively well looked after, it’ll give you a great solution for emails and writing on the move. Not only that, but if it’s stolen, you won’t have lost as much money.
Use The Internet To Find Cheap Hotel Rates Abroad

Luckily for the web-savvy traveler, its easier than ever to find cheap hotel rates abroad, in many different countries, if you know how to take advantage of online booking through companies that offer discounted prices to their customers over the Internet.
The web makes it easy to shop around, so you can purchase a hotel room for the lowest price possible. Because many hotels now operate through websites that find you the best travel deals, its definitely possible to compare prices offered by the various hotels and take advantage of the competition between establishments.
Searching for hotel deals on the web is a great way to evaluate prices and learn whats available at any given moment, but often you can even use the Internet to book directly, through the hotel youre interested in. The hotels own website can make your life much easier and may offer a discount because youre skipping the middleman to purchase a room right from the source.
Online sales tend to be cheaper all around because they offer good deals to people who are willing to plan ahead and book long before they plan to travel. You beat the crowd and get in ahead of the game before rooms are few and far between. When hotels are guaranteed a certain amount of bookings for the season, they can provide competitive prices.
But the reverse can also work to your advantage. If certain hotels have last-minute cancellations or availabilities, and youre ready and willing to hop on a plane and travel almost on the spot, you can grab fantastic rates as well because hoteliers want to fill up rooms rather than leave them empty, without any paying occupants.
Online booking can save you big bucks once you arrive at your destination as well. During tourist season, expecting to walk off the street and find a room for a reasonable rate is only going to disappoint you. You either wont be able to find a room at all, or it will be much too expensive.
If a hotel has rooms ready to go, they will be reserved for online sales. So if you are a last-minute kind of person, dont even bother to try visiting an establishment in person to find a room. Instead, locate the nearest Internet connection and book the room online! Not only will you get a really good price – youll actually get a room. Sometimes you can get a discount hotel room for only 60 per night, in a 3 or 4 star building!
When booking online, youll have to provide your credit card number over the Internet, but it wont be charged right away. Your credit card is used to hold your reservation until you arrive and check in, at which time you can pay using any method you prefer.
Nowadays there are tons of quality travel websites that let you book hotel rooms at discount prices in worldwide destinations. Many of these companies also offer virtual hotel tours, list facilities available in the rooms, and even provide hotel reservation tips.
Online booking boasts many benefits you cant enjoy when making reservations via the traditional route, in addition to the money-saving side of things. For instance, an online reservation website may have hundreds of hotel listings so you can choose from a wide range of hotels, room sizes, and amenities.
And these sites usually give you access to additional hotel discounts, special offers, combination deals, and hotel events, making it easy to put together an affordable package of discounts. The whole process usually goes very quickly and smoothly.
But make sure you dont choose just any hotel, based solely on the pictures provided online, and the low price. The one disadvantage of online shopping is the inability to determine whether or not a hotel really is clean, safe, and worth the price. As with any major purchase you make, research the hotel youre considering before committing to a booking read reviews from fellow travelers who have stayed at the same place and look through unbiased opinions on the hotel from various sources. Many websites offer information from other globetrotters that will help you determine whether or not a particular lodging is acceptable or should be nixed off your list of potential accommodations.
Anytime you book discount hotel rooms online, make sure you read the fine print: check if the rates change for an extra person, and if breakfast, parking facilities, and hotel shuttle services are part of the deal. Read the hotels cancellation policy to know what youre getting into when you book and determine if there are any special added rates you need to look out for.
With this knowledge in hand, you should never have to pay full price for a hotel room again. The Internet offers the experienced traveler an excellent opportunity to enjoy a great vacation for less if youre willing to give it a try.
Thermal paper is ultimately cheaper.

Thermal paper is cleaner than your standard ink, produces a crisper resolution, and is ultimately cheaper. Though thermal paper used to be considerably more expensive, the price has come down in recent years, thanks in part to better technology that allows its manufacturers to produce it at a more reasonable cost. Moreover, a thermal paper roll is quieter than bond paper, which is an added bonus for any shopper at the end of a long day.
Appleton uses ideas that make a difference to create product solutions through its development and use of coating formulations and applications, encapsulation technology, and specialized and secure print services. The Company produces carbonless, thermal, security, and performance packaging products. Appleton is headquartered in Appleton, Wisconsin, and has manufacturing operations in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom, employs approximately 3,400 people, and is 100 percent employee owned.
When it comes to buying thermal paper, you could possibly be facing high prices at the store. This shouldn’t stop you from using this superior product. I’ve found that it’s far easier and more affordable to simply buy your receipt paper rolls and other cash register supplies from online vendors.
The type of thermal paper you choose depends largely on the specifics of your business. The width, length, and grade of thermal paper varies widely depending on the manufacturer and the type of machine the paper is used for. Many online wholesalers, however, can customize your order so that you get the product you need to keep accurate records of all your transactions.
Our test results prove with certainty that LightSafe 300 stays white longer than any direct thermal label paper on the market,” Cove said. “This breakthrough ensures the long-term durability of direct thermal media. Now, end users in warehouse and supply chain applications can convert to direct thermal for their long-term label needs and take full advantage of its technological benefits and corresponding better overall value.
Thermal paper is paper that is impregnated with a chemical that changes color when exposed to heat. It is used in thermal printers and particularly in cheap, lightweight devices such as adding machines, cash registers, and credit card terminals.
Re-Formatting your Personal Computer
by admin on February 28th, 2011

As a personal computer is used it becomes more and more overworked and overloaded. It has less storage space, picks up spyware and viruses which ultimately slows down the performance of the computer. If nothing else can be done a last resort is re-formatting the computer.
Re-formatting a computer is quite simple with Microsoft Windows XP. The first step is setting your computer to boot from the CD-ROM. This can be done in the BIOS. For most mother-boards, pressing delete while the machine is booting will get you into the BIOS menu. There you simply need to navigate to the boot sequence and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM. Once this is done you can put your Windows XP CD in and restart the machine. This will bring you to the Microsoft menu. Here you can choose how you want to proceed with your installation.
A good piece of advice would be to back everything up before you proceed with the format. Formatting a computer deletes everything off the hard drive so if you have any music or documents that you need to preserve back them up onto an external hard drive or a CD before you go ahead.
The first option is installing Windows again alongside the existing operating system. This is not the option we want but would not be recommended none the less. You need to choose the format option. With Windows XP you can choose either quick format or regular format. With a 120gb drive a quick format will take about 10 minutes while a regular format can take up to an hour. Quick format would be the preferable option.
Once you click format all you have to do is wait. Once the format is complete you need to go through the steps of installing Windows. Once this is done your computer will be refreshed and as fast as the day you bought it home from the shops.
Protect Your Computer From Malicious Intent
by admin on February 21st, 2011

There are many types of malware, malicious software designed to disrupt the normal use of your computer. Some types of malware are simply nuisances to the one sitting behind the keyboard while others can actually harm or destroy the computer itself. Another threat posed by malware is the invasion of your privacy and it has the potential to cause you considerable personal andor financial harm. Most types of malware get onto your computer via web browsing, instant messaging, or peer-to-peer file sharing. Malware is a self-inflicted injury. You do it to yourself by using the Internet. Many people use the following terms interchangeably but there are definite differences in the types of infections you can catch on your computer.
SPYWARE — Spyware is a program that has been downloaded, usually unbeknownst to you, because it can be piggy-backed with some other type of desired program, usually freeware or shareware. Once this spyware is secretly installed on your computer it can do such things as change computer settings, track viewed websites, collect passwords, history and private information, and can even record your keystrokes. This information is then sent back to the programs originator or to a third party. Spyware is extremely difficult to eradicate.
A particularly annoying type of spyware is called adware which generates a tremendous amount of advertising in the form of pop-up advertisements or banners scrolling across your screen. This program can actually track your activities and cause similar ads to pop up hoping to interest you in related products. It can be quite intrusive and distracting but hardly as malicious as other types of spyware.
VIRUSES — A computer virus, also rides on the coat-tails of other programs when downloaded, and can reproduce and run itself when the host program is executed. It can infect and corrupt files and sometimes causes hard drives to crash depending on its design. A virus can infect other computers through the sending of email andor file exchanges.
WORM — A worm is a self-contained program that can replicate itself and uses a network to infect other systems on your computer. Depending on how the worm was designed, it can secretly send documents though email and even delete necessary files. Unlike a virus which causes harm to the computer and its files, a worm causes harm to other computers on the network and consumes bandwidth, thus slowing down your environment.
SPAM — Spam is electronic junk mail, usually unsolicited. It uses up tremendous amounts of network bandwidth. Spam is usually trying to sell you some product or service and is sent to generated mailing lists and newsgroups. Though it cannot cause you or your computer much harm, it is extremely annoying and time consuming to delete. It is estimated that more than 60% of all email on the internet is spam.
WHAT CAN YOU DO? — Visiting Geeks technicians strongly urge all owners to install an anti-virus software program on their computers. We also recommend at least one anti-spyware program, if not more than one. Depending on Internet usage, you should set both programs to automatically scan on a regular basis. These programs can actually find and remove unwanted infections and can also prevent their future installations. It isnt enough, however, to simply install these programs and think yourself entirely protected thereafter, because new spyware and viruses are constantly being designed. You must update your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs daily in order to pick up on these newest threats.
Though no one program can be relied on to keep your computer completely clear of sypware and viruses, there are many reputable anti-spyware and anti-virus programs available on todays market. When our customers need an anti-spyware program our technicians install Counter Spy by Sunbelt Software. For those customers with no anti-virus we will install PC-Cillin Internet Security by Trend Micro which even has the added benefit of Parental Control Features.
It is much easier to prevent your computer from being infected with these above-mentioned malware than it is to try to get rid of them, so browse the internet wisely. To clean a computer of unwanted spyware and viruses can be a costly and lengthy process. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so the saying goes.

Professional Help with Your Computer May Be Cheaper Than You Think
We all deal with them, those little computer problems that arent quite big enough to warrant a call to the Computer Guy. You know, like every once in a while your camera wont transfer its pictures the right way. Or like the times when all of a sudden your computer shuts down for no apparent reason and with no warning whatsoever. Dont forget those odd Run Time Errors with the crazy numbers in them. I love those.
The worst part is, you could probably fix some of these things yourself if you just had a little help or guidance. Calling a professional, while sometimes necessary, can be both a greater inconvenience and of course a greater cost. It may take forever to contact them, and when you do get in touch with the help desk, they always make you reboot the thing twelve times before you get any real advice.
Let me be clear on a couple things before we continue. First, I am a professional computer technician and have been working in the industry for over 15 years. There are numerous occasions where a professional is needed to help with or repair your PC. It is often my advice to have your system evaluated at least one every three months. On top of that, there are many things a novice should not try on their PC for fear of causing more harm than good. Not everything is this way though.
Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Your best way to help maintain your computer is by staying informed and educated. Im not suggesting everyone run out and get a Computer Science degree, but I am suggesting you use some of the top notch free resources that are available to you. The largest these days is of course the internet.
Dont get nervous yet, Im not suggesting you look up some super hi-tech article and study it until you know it inside and out. You dont have to. The net is full of people who already understand these things and are more than willing to pass some of that understanding on to you. They do this in forums.
Forums are a wonderful thing. A lot of forums are actual cyber communities of people who love to talk about various topics. They have people of varying skill sets, all interacting in a friendly supportive way. I know theres a free computer support forum out there with people in it just waiting to answer some of your questions.
So next time those pop ups are driving you crazy, and you cant reach your favorite help desk, stop by a computer support forum. Youll be surprised at how good an experience it can be.

Osha Standards And Your Office Computer Monitor
by admin on February 7th, 2011

In the 21st century office, ergonomics has become a very important element of design of structure. More and more officers are being designed to include workstations that follow ergonomic design concepts. Business owners, operators and managers have made employee safety and ergonomically designed workspaces a top priority in this day and age. To that end, the U.S. Department of Labors Occupational Safety and Health Administration, OSHA, has set forth guidelines and standards to be utilized by business owners, operators and managers in the creation of employee workspaces. In this regard, OSHA has set forth a useful checklist to be utilized by a person responsible for creating employee workplaces and workstations..
In this regard, OSHA has set forth specific guidelines to be utilized when it comes to computer monitors that are being utilized in the workplace. By following these guidelines relating to computer monitors, a business owner, operator or manager can be more comfortable in believing the workplace will be a safe environment for his or her employee team.
First of all, when it comes to computer monitors, OSHA guidelines maintain that a computer monitor screen should be large enough for adequate visibility. In this regard, a fifteen to twenty inch monitor generally is of sufficient size. The fact is that smaller monitor units make it very difficult to read characters on the screen — which causes eye strain and may result in long term damage. On the other hand, units that are larger than twenty inches require too much space in a workstation and are not practical. And, again, in order to be ergonomically adequate under OSHA guidelines, a screen or monitor in the fifteen to twenty inch range is ideal.
Second, the angle and tilt of the monitor should be easily adjustable. Different people are different sizes and need to have a monitor that can be adjusted to fit their own body size and frames. Additionally, even if a workstation is used by only one person, there may be different work assignments that will be best undertaken with the monitor at alternate angles.
Finally, in order to keep a workspace clear and uncluttered — and thereby safer and easier to work within — a business owner, operator or manager should consider buying a flat screen monitor. Flat screens require a significantly reduced amount of space within a workstation or workspace.
More information on the OSHA guidelines pertaining to computer monitors for safe workstations can be found at the OHSA website. OSHA can be reached online at http:www.osha.gov.
